They took advantage of Jorge De La Rosa’s slow move to the plate during the second inning on Tuesday night, when they sent nine batters to the plate and scored four times off the Rockies left-hander.

BLUE JAYS 4, RED SOX 3: Russell Martin hit a two-run single against Craig Kimbrel, who walked Troy Tulowitzki with the bases loaded to force in the tying run. Per Fox Sports, the Reds hadn’t stolen that many bases in an inning since the 1920s.

De La Rosa (1-2) lasted just two innings and took the loss for Colorado (8-6), which got six scoreless innings of relief, including four by Chris Rusin, who gave up two hits.

After their aggressive base running led to another home win, the Reds look to cap this three-game series with a second straight victory Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies. If not for a ninth inning two-run shot from Mark Reynolds, the Rockies would have ended up with one run on four hits.

Phillips singled, doubled and tripled in his first three at-bats.

Stephenson was the Reds’ top draft pick in 2011 and made his big league debut in the third game of the season, getting a win over Philadelphia as an injury fill-in that time, too. Paulsen, who has driven in seven runs in his last six games, added a double as the Rockies fell for just the second time in seven outings.

ST. LOUIS – John Lackey struck out 11 in seven innings against his former team and had an RBI single, leading Chicago over St. Louis.

“I lost my concentration”, De La Rosa said.

Smyly was in a pitching duel with Boston’s bullpen after starter Joe Kelly left in the first inning with stiffness in his right shoulder.

After the game, Elias consulted with official scorer Ron Roth and gave Raburn the hit back – but not the RBI or the run or the win.

“I’ve felt like the last two days my stuff has been as good as it has been”, he said. The Red Sox used six relievers, and the first four preserved the shutout until Matt Barnes (1-1) faced Kiermaier to lead off the 10th.

Reds starter Raisel Iglesias two runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and one walk.

• The Designated Hitter may be used defensively, continuing to bat in the same position in the batting order, but the pitcher must then bat in the place of the substituted defensive player, unless more than one substitution is made, and the manager then must designate their spots in the batting order. Rockies 2B DJ LeMahieu returned to action after missing two games with groin tightness…. With two runs crossing home, the score was 5-2, an uninspiring total for the road team.

On a brighter note, Carlos Gonzalez picked up his 1,000 career hit, putting him sixth all-time in Rockies history.
