The Mets were struggling enough with almost all of their players healthy, and if Cabrera winds up on the disabled list, it really should be time for them to call up Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas and insert him at shortstop.
It took until the seventh for the Rockies to pull in front, as Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly against Mets reliever Jerry Blevins brought home Tony Wolters to give Colorado a 4-3 lead.
In addition, Gold Glove center fielder Juan Lagares went on the disabled list Friday with a sprained left thumb.
Cespedes was absent from the lineup because of discomfort in his right quadriceps, and Collins said the Mets would have to “kick around” the idea of a DL stint.
Cabrera is expected to see a doctor Monday.

James Loney, who signed with the Mets following Duda’s injury, worked a 10-pitch walk in which he fouled off three consecutive 3-2 pitches. He won his lone career start against the Rockies last August 13 when he allowed three runs in seven innings in the Mets’ 12-3 victory.
“That’s my goal”, Story said, regarding being able to play Tuesday.
“I think it was good for everybody”, Collins said.
DJ LeMahieu drove in three runs and Dahl hit his second homer since making his big league debut this week, helping the Rockies reach.500 for the first time since late May.
“There’s a lot, he’s got a lot going on, as we know, at the plate”, Collins said of Walker. With three of their four starting infielders now on the disabled list, the team is just attempting to survive through the summer months.
Addison Reed struck out three in a one-hit eighth, and Familia fanned two in a flawless ninth for his 37th save in 39 attempts this year.
The Mets wound up losing their fourth straight game, falling to the Colorado Rockies 7-2 Saturday. Daniel Descalso had two RBI singles for the Rockies (52-53), who had won five in a row and nine of 10. Bettis has made 12 starts on the road, logging a 5-4 record with a 4.99 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.Syndergaard’s dominance has waned since his elbow issues flared up and he has been unable to pitch beyond six innings during a three-start winless drought.
Ideally, the Mets would like to have Cespedes as the designate hitter for five games beginning Wednesday in AL ballparks. Colorado has 19 quality starts this month, tying the franchise record for the most in a month.
