At the same time, the LP urged Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, Duterte’s party mate in the PDP-Laban, to “uphold the independence of the Senate whose membership must always be vigorously supported as they fulfill the people’s mandate to make inquiries in aid of legislation”. “One day I will tell you that her driver who was her lover was the one collecting money for her during the campaign”.

Meanwhile, even though Duterte did not directly point her, Senator Leila De Lima reacts and cries foul about the accusation of the President. He said her lover who was also her driver had collected payoffs for her.
“Here is an immoral woman, flaunting, well of course insofar as wife of the driver was concerned, (her) adultery”, he said.
De Lima said that she wants to know if the operational procedures of the Philippine National Police, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and other law enforcement agencies are legitimate.
Duterte did not name De Lima in his speech but dropped heavy – and obvious – hints that he was referring to her when he chastised a “senator” for “complaining” about the ongoing campaign against illegal drugs. Here is a woman who funded the house of her lover and yet we do not see any complaint about it. Those money came readily from drugs.
The President clarified that “in fairness” he was not saying there that the driver gave the senator drug money, but then the President made his own conclusion.

De Lima however said that if the President thinks his attacks will convince her to stop next week’s Senate investigation into the extra-judicial killings of hundreds of drug suspects, “he can try until he finally silences me or the Senate”. “De Lima’s approach, of not only taking the moral high ground with regard to drug-related deaths, but her assumptions that said deaths are directly attributable to PRRD’s war on drugs”, Abella said.
