Dead Deer Run Up a Florida High School’s Flagpole

It wasn’t until the sun peeked above the horizon, illuminating the flagpole outside Brandon High School, that teachers and students streaming into the building Monday morning noticed something was amiss.

“We have no idea who did it”, Hillsborough County schools spokeswoman Tanya Arja told the newspaper.

The deer was not believed to have been alive while being hung and school staff quickly removed the animal from sight although a few students saw it and posted photos to social media.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and will be reviewing surveillance video, officials said.

Investigators say the deer was shot dead before being placed on the flagpole.

The Brandon High School mascot is the Eagle, not the Dead Deer.

“We’re going to take this very seriously, try to figure out who did this and hold them accountable”, sheriff’s office spokesman Larry McKinnon told Bay News 9. They were foiled – and arrested.
