Questions have been raised over whether Clark was handcuffed when he was shot, which police have denied. “There’s a growing resistance by all people from all backgrounds — white, Latino, black, Arab — to the police brutality and to the racism that we see going on”, said Taylor. He says he’s staying.

Hodges said at the news conference that she is “not issuing a deadline right now” for when the protesters have to end their occupation. Additional details weren’t immediately available. Three are white and the fourth is Asian.

Chicago police blocked off roads to accommodate the march down Michigan Avenue, and officers in some areas formed a barrier of sorts between protesters and stores and helped shoppers get through the doors.

The protesters who were shot suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The footage shows McDonald jogging down a street and then veering away from Officer Jason Van Dyke and another officer who emerge from a police SUV drawing their guns. They are all in their 20s. Police said Jones pulled a replica handgun from his backpack and pointed it at officers, who shot him in the upper body. The incident is being investigated, and one of the officers involved was recently named in a lawsuit for allegedly using excessive force during an arrest four years ago. It was moved to federal court last week.
