Deadly blast hits government office in Pakistan
Hospital officials told Pakistani television that at least 30 people have been wounded in the blast, which occurred in the northwestern town of Mardan, located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Conflicting reports suggest that explosives may have been planted on a motorcycle parked near the NADRA office. “Apparently the target was the queue as there were around 400 people standing there”, he said. The office issues government identity cards. “When a security guard, Pervaiz Khan, tried to challenge him and reach out for his gun, the bomber lobbed a hand grenade before detonating his suicide vest”.

PM condemns NADRA blast Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack near NADRA office Mardan.
‘We are still inside the office, and the police and rescue workers are busy in their work, ‘ he said.
The bomb disposal squad estimated eight kilograms of explosives, along with ball bearings, was used in the attack. Police said it recovered the head and legs of the suicide bomber from the site. Had the suicide attacker succeeded in entering the office, the death toll would have been much worse.
On October 26, Sub-Inspector Abdul Hakim had handed over a security advisory to a director of the Nadra office who had refused to receive the written instructions for improving security at the office.
There were 19 suicide attacks in Pakistan this year through December 20, according to the South Asia Terrorism Portal.
Pakistan’s army has been battling a homegrown Islamist insurgency since 2004 after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan caused militants to flee across the border where they began to foment unrest.
A Taliban-influenced group quickly claimed responsibility for the attack. The Peshawar attack had forced the Pakistan military to intensify its anti-Taliban Zarbe-Azab operation in tribal areas bordering Afgha nistan.
Police have also recovered weapons from some of the arrested suspects.
