He added that “obviously he was hell-bent on hurting a lot of people – we still aren’t absolutely clear as to why”.

The “rambling” note inside the envelope found at the scene details hatred for police and names a specific parole officer, reports ABC News. He said he appeared to have mental health issues and was clearly angry at his probation officer. It all started around 11:20pm Friday on the 5200 block of Sansom Street.
The shooting occurred at about 11:20 p.m. Friday when a man approached a police auto and fired through the window at Sgt. Sylvia Young, who was parked at 52nd and Samson streets in west Philadelphia, police said. Young was wearing a bullet-proof vest, and survived the rampage by leaning into the passenger seat of her vehicle. The suspect fired at Sgt. Two shots struck her service weapon while others hit her arm and torso.
The suspect first opened fire at a police officer in a vehicle before shooting into a bar and then at a civilian auto, as Police Commissioner Richard Ross told reporters Saturday afternoon. A 42-year-old male manager was hit in both legs, and a 41-year-old female bartender was hit in her right ankle.
Miller, who served as a Philadelphia Police officer for 33 years before retiring as a sergeant and joining Penn’s police department, was released from the hospital Sunday.
Glenn’s sixth victim, 25-year-old Sara Salih, died from her wounds. He then grabbed a woman and used her as a human shield, shooting her in the leg, authorities said. Her identity has not yet been released. In a press conference on Saturday, Commissioner Richard Ross said that the incident was “one of the most violent acts that we’ve seen in Philadelphia in a long time”.
Continuing east, he came upon a white Nissan traveling toward the corner of 49th and Sansom Streets.
After shooting the sergeant, then attempting to flee, Glenn shot a security guard and a patron at a bar. The officers were uninjured. The woman, who was hit seven times, was pronounced dead just before 2 a.m. Saturday, police said. He was in critical condition at John Peter Smith Hospital, but came out of surgery late Friday night and is expected to recover.
Glenn subsequently died in a shootout with other responding officers. The suspected gunman was among the dead. One or two bullets lodged in her bulletproof vest, Ross said.
Mayor Jim Kenney told ABC-affiliate WPTV that the injured officers were awake and conscious when he visited them early Saturday. “One officer was cracking jokes with his kids and wife”.

Young, trapped in the vehicle, couldn’t do anything but lean over into the passenger side until the firing stopped, Ross said.
