In the Southeast, two more deaths linked to weather were reported Saturday in MS, bringing that state’s death toll from severe weather over Christmas to 10. In northern Texas, where local officials estimated as many as 1,450 homes were damaged or destroyed.
Hardest-hit was the Dallas suburb of Garland, where authorities confirmed eight fatalities after a tornado packing winds of up to 200 miles (320 kilometers) per hour bore down on the city.
“I’ve never seen anything like this, with this scale of destruction”, Police Chief Mitch Bates told media. The extent of the injuries are not known, and officials said there are no reports of missing people. She said Santillano asked her to take the girl to the hospital, and she headed out with another neighbor. “Be OK, baby. Be OK, ‘” King recalled.
That snow will eventually work its way down to Dallas, blanketing and freezing over communities in the middle of tornado clean-up. “But to take the baby, too, that’s wrong”.
The heaviest snow, over a foot (30 cm), was expected in southwestern Wisconsin across and southeastern Minnesota, Leseney said.
