Deadly Washington wildfire rages on

Four other firefighters nearby were injured, one critically.

National Guard troops – some of whom will undergo rudimentary firefighting techniques before being deployed and some who underwent training in March – will be assigned to fires where the greatest need matches their level of training, Eagle said.

This season, 13 people have died battling wildfires, including the three in Washington, the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho, said.

The Chelan complex was more than 123,000 acres in size Thursday and 50 percent contained.

The wildfire service warns the front could pack some strong winds, potentially fanning the Rock Creek fire, complicating efforts to fully contain it.
