The National Transportation Safety Board was heading the investigation, FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro said. She told CNN affiliate WEWS that she learned the news from her nephew, who got a call from Pebb on Tuesday night.

Two people aboard a business jet were killed Tuesday when it crashed into an Akron, Ohio, apartment building, causing an explosion and fire in a neighborhood miles away from the airport.

Jason Grom, a forensic investigator with the Summit County medical examiner, said employees are at the scene recovering remains. The plane then hit an embankment and another residential building.

Seven associates of a Florida real estate investment company were on the second day of a multicity Midwestern trip to look at property for potential shopping centers when their small jet crashed into the apartment building, killing all nine people onboard.

Seven passenger and two crew were on board. Lauderdale, then made stops in Minneapolis and IL before spending the night in Cincinnati Monday night.

The plane in question flew from the Dayton-Wright Brothers airport, Miamisburg, Ohio, at about 2:13 p.m. and was headed to the Akron Fulton Airport. The pilot and co-pilot were also killed in the crash.

“Weather is a key area we are looking at”, Dinh-Zarr said adding investigators hoped to begin the recovery of the aircraft Thursday. The two engines will be sent to the manufacturer, Honeywell, for analysis.

“Obviously, the situation could have been worse, granted, if anybody was home”, State Highway Patrol Lt. Bill Haymaker said.

Most of the victims were from Florida, but authorities said they wouldn’t release any names until the bodies have been identified. The plane reportedly cut power lines as it crashed into the building, following which there was a massive fire.

A woman who lived at the apartment building destroyed in the fiery plane crash returned to the scene of the tragedy Wednesday, where she lost everything.

The family of at least one victim had arrived in Akron and others were expected, Haymaker said. Several residents stood outside, chatting and speculating with each other and the media about what happened and reliving their own brushes with the disaster. Beth Hartford who lives less than a quarter mile from the crash site recalled what she heard.
