Death toll from Pakistan flash floods rises to 118
The death toll from three weeks of flooding in Pakistan has surpassed the 100 mark, officials said on Sunday, as authorities feared more heavy rains could affect more people. Meanwhile, floodwater has inundated vast areas, leaving tens of thousands homeless.

“We have confirmed reports of 116 deaths but more casualties have been reported from Khyber Pakthunwa and Baluchistan provinces due to last night’s rains, which we are trying to confirm”, Ahmad Kamal, a disaster authority spokesman, told Anadolu Agency. About 2,900 houses have collapsed or are partially damaged.
It is a key water source for Pakistan, especially in the Punjab province, which accounts for a notable share of the country’s agricultural production.
Flash floods killed 109 people and a few 700,000 have been affected, the National Disaster Management Authority said.

In Punjab, 150 medical camps have been established to provide the affected people with medical aid. The government said it has provided over 32,000 tents, 2009 tones of ration, 1,500 tarpaulins and 8,467 blankets to flood victims. More than six tonnes of relief goods have also been distributed among them by the Commander Pak Marines stationed at PN rescue camp Sukkur to supervise the Relief efforts. A total of 136,000 people were affected there. Pakistan Navy Field Commands are maintaining close liaison with PDMA and other concerned authorities in civil administration to promptly respond to any flood related emergency.
