In the USA, the death toll has risen to twelve from Legionnaires’ disease in New York.
Health officials believe they have traced the source of the outbreak to a group of five water-cooling towers in the South Bronx that initially tested positive for the bacteria. Lack of action in addressing ways to prevent Legionnaires’ disease Regardless of the lack of cooperation or coordination between the two governmental bodies, New York city has not done enough to address the growing threat Legionnaires’ disease poses. The disease has been showing up for more than a month now in the city.
He said finding enough Legionella bacteria in a cooling tower to make someone sick is rare. Letters to the business owners include information on inspection and maintenance of hot and cold water systems, which include cooling towers.
The measure would require all towers to be registered and subject to quarterly inspections performed by the city.
The sooner mix-up – and ensuing questions from reporters to the mayor concerning the inconsistency, which clearly irritated de Blasio – was the newest chapter within the ongoing feud between the mayor and governor, who’re each Democrats and declare to be buddies.
“We’ve got been aggressive”, Cuomo stated concerning the state’s response.
Legionnaire’s disease is caused by a bacterium called legionella and is considered to be an advanced form of pneumonia which causes inflammation to the lungs.
But de Blasio said the outbreak was apparently on the wane, since the city had recorded no new cases in a week. “This is actually uncharted domain and it’s critical we perceive that we’ve never seen an episode of Legionnaires’ similar to this in the historical backdrop of New York City“. The company said it reopened Monday morning after disinfecting cooling towers.
Cuomo said the state would provide free testing for buildings with cooling towers or other equipment conducive to the bacteria.

The union’s environmental staff will inspect the hot water system next week, and after it is cleaned, send samples to a lab for testing. The mayor also updated seniors in the South Bronx, saying: -Two more old cases were added to the list, bringing the total to 115. “We also know that this is an emerging reality not just here in this city but around our state and nation”.
