Now, Wasserman Schultz is on her way out, after the publication of emails that suggest Democratic officials favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the nominating contests.

Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz says she will step down at end of party’s convention in the wake leaked emails that show at least some DNC officials were looking at ways to undercut Sanders’ campaign, including questioning his religious beliefs.

Hillary Clinton smiles as Bernie Sanders pauses while endorsing her during a campaign rally in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Earlier Sunday, The Democratic National Committee’s rules panel decided that Rep. Marcia Fudge of OH will preside over convention sessions beginning Monday.

The Vermont senator was headlining the convention’s first night amid lingering angst over the primary process and plans by some of his supporters to boo Wasserman Schultz when she gavels in the convention. “I will open and close the Convention and I will address our delegates about the stakes involved in this election not only for Democrats, but for all Americans”. By Sunday, she was no longer the convention’s “temporary” chair, and the “permanent” role had been awarded to U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge of Ohio. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla is interviewed in NY.

Norman Solomon, coordinator of an independent network of Sanders delegates, said that Wasserman Schultz’s resignation doesn’t represent “her being tossed overboard by Hillary Clinton”, noting that she’ll have a role with the campaign.

Others showed Wasserman Schultz criticizing Sanders for not being a member of the party and saying he would never be president.

“We need a new chair that is going to lead us in a different direction”, Sanders said. His supporters can’t help but feel Wasserman Schultz didn’t have their candidate’s “back” during the months leading to Clinton’s nomination.

“We know that the voices in this room that are standing up and being disruptive – we know that that’s not the Florida we know”, she told the crowd.

In several of the emails, it’s made clear that the party was less supportive of Sanders during his run opposing Clinton as the Democratic presidential nominee. On the contrary, he commented her choice for a Vice President and her concessions to his policy agenda and pledged his full support. I look forward to serving as a surrogate for her campaign in Florida and across the country to ensure her victory.
