Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Bad Week Just Got Much Worse

“There is some deeply disturbing information in the emails, but they don’t need to distract from the convention if the DNC takes clear and immediate action”, Democratic Vice Chair R.T. Rybak told The Washington Post.

The head of the Democratic National Committee is resigning after several private emails were released that suggested the DNC was biased toward Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the 2016 primary election. After all, he managed to make it through his convention without being forced to step down.

Democrats who gleefully jeered Republican divisions last week awoke to a political mess of their own making Monday as party unity behind Hillary Clinton proved much harder to secure.

Sanders responded to her resignation Sunday afternoon.

Third, as of now, Wasserman Schultz is still scheduled to address the party at the convention in Philadelphia.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is resigning under pressure as Democratic Party chairwoman, a stunning leadership shakeup as party officials gather in Philadelphia to nominate Hillary Clinton.

“There’s been dirty politics throughout history and I certainly hope that Congresswoman Wasserman [Schultz] is defeated in her local election because it’s disgraceful”, said Sanders supporter Jack Shannahan on Sunday.

Norman Solomon, a delegate who supports Bernie Sanders, says there is talk among Sanders’ delegates of walking out during Kaine’s acceptance speech or turning their backs as a show of protest.

Alex Seitz-Wald of MSNBC reports that in a practical sense “Wasserman Schultz had already effectively lost control of the DNC after Clinton’s campaign inserted operative Brandon Davis to run operations on a day-to-day basis” and that Adam Parkhomenko has also been dispatched from Brooklyn to serve in a senior role at the DNC. What that means is that Canova is now only $700,000 below Debbie Wasserman Schultz in total fundraising.

Clinton thanked Wasserman Schultz in a statement, saying “there’s simply no one better at taking the fight to the Republicans than Debbie”, adding that she still plans to campaign her in Florida.
