Bernie Sanders’ supporters gathered outside – as well as inside – the convention hall today to attend sessions on trade agreements and to criticize the DNC for delegate-representation rules.
She abruptly cancelled that plan just a few hours before she was to gavel open the nominating convention. In the middle of her speech, angry attendees began to chant, “Shame!”. “They know exactly [what] was going on”.
Andru Volinsky, who served as Sanders legal counsel in New Hampshire during the primaries, told NH1 News Wasserman Schultz “was an impediment to bringing everyone together and it’s good that she’s resigned”.
“We have to make sure we move in a unified way”, she said Monday at the breakfast.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, indicated that he believes “Russian state actors” had some involvement in the leaked Democratic National Committee emails that show top Democrats writing off Sen. Baltimore mayor and DNC secretary Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will replace her.
In a statement, Ms Wasserman Schultz said she would “step down as party chair at the end of this convention”.
Last week, Wikileaks released thousands of emails from within the Democratic National Committee.
At one point, Wasserman Schultz tried play down the booing: “I can see there’s a little bit of interest in my being here, and I can appreciate that interest”. As Party Chair, this week I will open and close the Convention and I will address our delegates about the stakes involved in this election not only for Democrats, but for all Americans.
Wasserman Schultz made the comments at an event at the Democratic National Convention hosted by the National Jewish Democratic Council, where she was presented with an award.
But the crowd wasn’t having it. When a “Bernie” sign was thrust in Pelosi’s face on stage, she remained calm, saying, “I don’t consider it a discourtesy even if it is intended as one”.
