Charleston Southern golfer Austin James won two matches Thursday to move into the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur at Olympia Fields Country Club near Chicago.

DeChambeau, a 21-year-old senior at SMU, could join Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore as the only players to win the NCAA Championship and U.S. Amateur in the same year.
DeChambeau, from Clovis, California, beat Stanford junior Maverick McNealy of Portola Valley, California, 3 and 2; Dunne edged former Colorado player David Oraee of Greeley, Colorado, 3 and 2; James beat UCLA senior Jake Knapp of Costa Mesa, California, 2 and 1; and Crocker outlasted Alabama junior Robby Shelton of Wilmer, Alabama, in 20 holes.
Three-down after 10 holes, Bard won Nos. DeChambeau built his lead to 6 up with a birdie on No. 8 – the fifth birdie of his round to that point.
The semi-final matches are on today and the 36-hole Championship final for Sunday.
“It’ll be a fun battle”, DeChambeau said of the title match. “If I can stay in the moment, I’ll be all right”. “So to make it to the quarterfinals in the Am is pretty special, something that I’ve wanted to do for quite a long time now, being my fifth U.S. Am”.
Konishi is making an attempt to develop into the primary Japanese victor in event historical past.
The 22-year-old from Greystones, who held a share of the lead after three rounds of last month’s Open Championship, lost 3&2 to US Walker Cup star DeChambeau, who made six birdies at Olympia Fields yesterday.
“I do not really feel any strain”, Konishi stated.
“All day, he hit it straight”, Konishi said through an interpreter.

“It’s been my dream since I was a little kid to play in the Masters as a professional”, Bard said. “I didn’t even believe it. I didn’t think it was going to happen”.
