Christopher Marquez, 30, an Iraq War vet, told the Washington Post he was eating in a back corner of the restaurant when a group of teens and young men approached his table. “Because I wouldn’t respond back to them, they were calling me a racist”. “I felt they were really trying to intimidate me and just trying to start a confrontation with me”.
One officer told Snopes that records indicated that Marquez was robbed, but that there were no details available about the conversation between Marquez and the men, which, according to Marquez, led one man to call him a “racist”. A teenager wearing a white shirt knocked Marquez unconscious before others swooped in to take his belongings.
Crime in Washington D.C. has been on the rise and city officials are now considering a measure that if passed, would issue payments to people for not breaking the law. Medical documents obtained by The DCNF show Marquez was treated for head trauma and an eye contusion. They used the cards right after the attack.
Marquez told The Daily Caller that he suspects race is the reason his attackers targeted him.
Marquez, a Hispanic man, described the attack as “a hate crime” to Fox News, adding that such incidents are common. “Too many of these types of attacks have been happening against white people by members of the black community and the majority of the main stream media refuses to report on it”.
Marquez served eight years as a Marine, earning a Bronze Star for another firefight in Fallujah where he tried to save yet another Marine.
“The kids were asking me if I think that black lives mattered”, Marquez told The Marine Corps Times. He stated that “Like all Marines, I fought for the freedom of all Americans and not just one particular group”.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, as suspects remain on the loose, with little information that could help identify them, except for the images captured by the establishment’ surveillance cameras. One may have been female. Marquez says he sensed trouble and ignored them.
