To achieve that state-fair taste, you’ll need to finish off the treat in a frying pan or oven before digging in.
“We’ve seen a rise I popularity of deep fried Twinkies as an item on restaurant menus across the country”, she continued.
Americans will no longer have to track down their nearest state fair or risk third-degree oil burns to get their deep-fried Twinkie fix.
This Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, photo, shows boxes of Twinkies in the freezer of Associated Press reporter Anne D’Innocenzio in NY.
At 220 calories and nine grams of fat, the deep fried frozen variation is nearly twice as fatty as a a regular Twinkie, which comes in at 130 calories and four grams of fat, Time reported. For comparison, New York-based hot-dog joint Papaya King sells its own fresh deep-fried treats for $3 each, excluding tax.
A box of seven will cost $4.76 and, for the first three months, will only be available at Walmart stores. After that, they will be available at other stores.
NUTRITION: The vanilla-cream version has 220 calories, nine grams of fat and 16 grams of sugar.
“It has a retro cool factor”, said Ellen Copaken, vice president of marketing at Hostess.
