Deer Island ‘Baby Doe’ identified, Massachusetts State Police say

Her body was discovered on June 25 along the shore of Deer Island, a narrow peninsula just east of Boston’s Logan Airport. At least one person was taken into custody.

According to the station, Boston police got a tip about the girl and passed it on to state police, who then executed a search warrant at a home in the Boston neighborhood of Mattapan on Thursday. The tragedy was evident from the start, but the girl’s identity as well as her story, was not.

A spokesman for the Suffolk district attorney’s office said the investigation remains “very active”. The report indicates that the medical examiner is still running tests, which is the main reason why the child’s name has not yet been released.

Baby Doe was found on beach of Deer Island on June 25. She was wearing polka-dot leggings and was wrapped in a zebra-print blanket. “That’s somewhat reassuring, because that’s been a theory from the start”.

“This pollen analysis also suggests that “Baby Doe” may have been placed on the shoreline, rather than washed ashore from a great distance”, added Wark. Police in July launched a billboard campaign featuring a computer-generated image of what the girl may have looked like in life, in hopes of generating leads on her identity.
