Defamation case: Jethmalani to represent Kejriwal for free
Jaitley also reached the Patiala House Court in the company of several party leaders and ministers where, as his supporters raised slogans in his support, he filed a criminal defamation complaint against Kejriwal and AAP leaders.

The Rajya Sabha’s proceedings were disrupted once again on Monday as Congress members demanded Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s resignation over alleged corruption in the DDCA.
He asked Jaitley to cooperate with the Commission of Enquiry set up by his government and prove his innocence.
A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approached former Solicitor General of India Gopal Subramanium to head a one-man Commission of Inquiry to look into the affairs of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), the senior lawyer accepted the job. Rubbishing allegations against Jaitley in the DDCA issue as baseless, the BJP President said that the party would not let the AAP succeed in its conspiracy to tarnish Jaitley’s image.
The Patiala House court on Monday set January 5 as the next date of hearing for the criminal defamation case filed by Jaitley against Kejriwal and other AAP leaders. “Mr Jaitley has not drawn a single penny from the DDCA”. He also seemed to suggest that he knew Arun Jaitley was the person who was behind this, also calling him “impotent”. “On perusing the material on record, I take cognisance of the offences”, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Khanagwal said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah are backing Jaitley in the case. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the Congress member had made an uncalled for statement and personally targeted the finance minister.
Asked if he feared action by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for speaking against a fellow party leader, Azad reiterated that his fight was against corruption and not against any individual or party.
The committee had also recommended to the government to appoint a Commission of Inquiry under the Commission of Inquiries Act while mentioning about findings on DDCA’s alleged wrongdoings by various probe panels in the recent past including the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO).
The political slugfest between BJP and AAP entered a high-stakes phase with the Delhi government yesterday ordering a commission of inquiry into alleged irregularities in Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley hitting back by declaring that he would file defamation cases against CM Arvind Kejriwal and five other AAP functionaries.
The finance minister, on his part, said, “The charges are baseless and wrong”.

In the complaint, Luthra asserted: “The accused persons individually and collectively undertook a false and defamatory campaign against Jaitley and his family members”.
