Defender Shaw says United must make good start against Watford

Jose Mourinho claims the abrupt end to Manchester United’s ideal start to 2016-17 is not worrying him.

Marcos Rojo, derided by the majority of United supporters during and after his poor performance, has managed to remain in the squad.

The response from United in the derby last weekend was positive.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Phil Jones are sidelined for the game.

The apparent absences of Lingard and Mkhitaryan could reprieve Juan Mata, who was substituted for the fourth time this season against Feyenoord.

And so, United’s vast, opulent luxury liner came crashing upon the rocks as the likes of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the truly abysmal Memphis Depay repeatedly fell at the first hurdle in their attempts to claw back parity.

“United upped the tempo and used their physical presence in moments of the game, making it very hard for us”. It looked previous year like he was leaving, he’s not been involved a minute of the season, so what he’s done I don’t know.

“I know they want to win, they want to work and that is what we have to do”.

“But I think today we were very good physically and they didn’t create a lot”.

United disappointed in Europa League action in midweek as they lost to Feyenoord, with the Red Devils’ second string giving Mourinho little reason to extend their run in the side.

Fosu-Mensah could make his first appearance of the season at Northampton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Asked, though, if Watford was the biggest match of his short reign given the events of this week where his side suffered a Europa League defeat to Feyenoord, Mourinho said: “Watford?”.

Ahead of Sunday’s game.

Paul Pogba has been the centre of discussion over the past week, with the Frenchman failing to stamp his mark on the pitch after a world record move to Old Trafford.

“I always said it was a very good start but. In the first half they were in control but were playing half pace”, Mourinho said. No matter how good a football player you are, losing still hurts.

“I thought Fellaini was all right, he does a job which stops the other team”. Every season, every team wants to improve on last season.
