Defending champion Angelique Kerber to play Petra Kvitova for place in final
The world number 71 will face compatriot Angelique Kerber, who edged a classic showdown against Petra Kvitova 6-4 4-6 6-2 in order to book her place in the Sunday final.

The qualifier had beaten seeds Simona Halep, Roberta Vinci and Agnieszka Radwanska, all ranked in the world’s top ten.
“I am overwhelmed and speechless”, Siegemund, born and raised near Stuttgart, told reporters after claiming her third top-10 victim in succession.
Angie won the Stuttgart title this week for the second straight year.
This is Kerber’s ninth title throughout her professional career and the second in 2016 after winning the Australian Open’s final against United States legend Serena Williams.
World number two Radwanska breezed through the first set against world number 18 Pliskova, but was made to dig deep in the second before clinching the tie-break 10-8.
Having broken Siegemund to go 5-0 up, Kerber used her first championship ball to seal the win which again includes the prize of a luxury sports vehicle.
“I’m really exhausted and I know I can play much better”, the 28-year-old Siegemund said.
Siegemund continued her fine form from the earlier rounds at the beginning of the match, utilising plenty of drop shots to frustrate Kerber and race into a 3-0 lead. It took a while for Kerber to settle enough to start to take the qualifier on at her own game, finally getting on the board and perhaps settling those nerves.
The reigning Australian Open champion trailed in her overall head-to-head with Kvitova 3-4 before their semifinal, but won their most recent encounter at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.

Kerber continues to take the process in her stride for now, and she once more acknowledged how the crowd had been a supporting factor for her. You must play against her up to the last point.
