Defending EPL champions Leicester stumble in season opener

I have never known so much anticipation leading up to a new campaign, and there are lots of reasons people are so excited.

Spurs fans have been getting too big in their boots, following their wonder season past year, in which they only managed to finish in third, and Champions League football will no doubt hinder their chances of another surprise place in the CL qualifying spots. The Portuguese genius has a superb track record, and that alone has seen Manchester United installed as second-favourites to become Premier League champions.

City only suffered defeat three times last season, but Ranieri is confident his players will bounce back next week against Arsenal.

Philip said: “Unbelievable. I don’t think anyone saw this coming”.

Hull and Burnley are the favorites to go down this year just as they did two years ago, but it’s no foregone conclusion. Today we are featuring one of the new teams to be promoted, Hull City who will play against the title defenders Leicester City at the KCOM Stadium in Hill.

Pochettino’s side came so close last time out, he will not want them to fall away.

“The signs are definitely that we’re stronger, the competition for places is even more and it all makes for a better team and we’re all driving in the same direction”.

Bookmakers and pundits alike were stunned by this, in-fact the odds were so long on them winning that there was a whole roster of insane things which were considered more likely to happen.

However, a lot has happened in terms of managerial changes and player transfers since Leicester’s historic title win.

Four kilometres away, Mourinho’s managerial rival and diametric opposite, Pep Guardiola, has landed at Manchester City.

Perhaps it’s a outcome of the Premier League’s obscene wealth, but coaching has come to be neglected by those who should know better in the country. The problem is that experience also came in a more forgiving league, and it’s hard not to think they haven’t quite bolstered enough to mitigate their relative callowness.

“Don’t laugh. I’m starting with the same philosophy and the same humility? what we achieved, it was fantastic”.

Leicester City can’t compete financially with the top clubs in the Premier League and thus lost midfielder N’Golo Kante to Chelsea. Still, Musa likely will start the season behind Shinji Okazaki on the striker depth chart but will have a chance to make his mark as the Foxes juggle domestic and continental commitments.

Chelsea are another team with a new manager in charge this season, former Italian national team coach Antonio Conte.

Neither Liverpool nor Chelsea have European football, and that freedom could be such a significant advantage in such a congested Premier League, especially for two managers trying to drill their teams into two hugely distinctive ways of playing. I am very pleased about our first performance against a very good team.

The defending champions also struggled up front, with Jamie Vardy missing their best chances – and they needed the help of referee Mike Dean for their equaliser.

“They played the way I asked them to play”. The cast list of those fighting for the title is as good as it gets. Yet, thanks to a few key signings and a togetherness which lasted all through the season, they pulled through to cause the biggest shock in the Premier Leagues history.

It will be very different for them this year with Champions League football to contend with and some teams spending a fortune to try to catch them up.
