Defends decision on Russian doping crisis
All 11 Russian boxers who qualified for the Rio Olympics have been given the all clear to compete at the Games, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) said on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday, an International Olympic Committee spokesman said the final list of Russian athletes – expected to be about 270 out of an original 387 – is close to being fixed. Overall, more than 100 Russians have been excluded, including 67 in track and field.
The IOC again pointed blame at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for failing to act sooner on evidence of state-sponsored doping in Russian Federation.
“The IOC is very much about protecting clean athletes” individual rights and I’m very pleased they supported us’.
Eleven of those 18 are related to the Russian doping crisis that continues to dominate headlines in Rio, with the opening ceremony just two days away now but no firm answer on how big Russia’s team will be.
“On top of all that, Russian athletes are going through additional testing which is taking place at the Olympic village”.
“We have good news for the fans of the Russian Olympic team”, he said.
Former World Anti-Doping Agency president Dick Pound has admitted there is a “disconnect” between Olympic sports and the anti-doping community – but is convinced it can be fixed.
But Zhukov said long jumper Darya Klishina will be able to compete.
On Tuesday, UKAD confirmed the ruling by CAS.
“In the case of Mr. Sozykin, though he was identified in the McLaren Report in connection with the Disappearing Positive Methodology, the report did not include specific information as to whether the positive test occurred in-competition or out-of-competition”, World Sailing said. WADA and many other anti-doping agencies had called for a complete ban after Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren issued a report that accused the Russian sports ministry of orchestrating a doping program that involved more than two dozen summer and winter Olympic sports.
“All five riders have been tested and we did individual analysis of their anti-doping history, which we submitted to the IOC”.
The Russian Weightlifting Federation appealed to CAS but sport’s ultimate court found against them.
There’s been just one dissenting voice at the IOC session in Rio, against the decision not to put a blanket Olympic ban on Russian Federation.
“I think it’s not the reputation of the International Olympic Committee that has to be restored, it’s the reputation of WADA”, Israeli member Alex Gilady said. “I think it’s particularly important when the participation rate for women in sports have been skyrocketing, especially in the Olympics”.
Thomas Bach is adamant the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made the correct decision in not imposing a blanket ban on Russian athletes at Rio 2016 and has called for a “full review” of the World Anti-Doping Authority (WADA). This is destroying justice.
