West Indies named an otherwise unchanged squad for the third Test, buoyed by a solid rearguard action in the second Test which ended at Sabina Park in Kingston in a draw on Wednesday.

West Indies are still trailing by 89 runs as Roston Chase (70) and Shane Dowrich (33) were at the crease at the break.

We got a really good partnership between Jermaine Blackwood and Roston Chase at the beginning of the day, and that set it up for us. “It laid the foundation for the entire day”.

That success was no more than the West Indies captain deserved for an excellent nine-over spell during which Rahane survived a succession of LBW appeals and struggled to cope with the probing accuracy of the fast-medium bowler.

The result means that India continue to lead the series 1-0 with one more game to go.

This was the first time in 9 days of cricket between the two teams in the Test series that the home team looked to put in a fight.

“Obviously we wanted to win this Test match”.

“Then today, Dowrich came out and played an outstanding knock”. Although, Roston Chase and Shane Dowrich did good to keep their wickets intact. “After that, I just came out and maintained the focus, and made sure that I was there at the end”, he added.

Only 15.5 overs were bowled before lunch after a late start caused by intermittent drizzle, and heavy rain throughout the afternoon prevented further play. He had also bowled extensively in the first Test in Antigua, delivering 34 overs for 102 runs without taking a wicket in India’s only innings at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. “In the end, credit to the West Indian batsmen, how they batted today and their application as well”.

Battling to avoid another ignominious innings defeat in the four-match series, a beleaguered West Indies produced a determined effort, batting for 88.1 overs with the loss of only two wickets, to force a spirited draw on the final day. With the pitch not offering much on the day, the spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin (1/114) and Amit Mishra (2/90) weren’t as effective.

After scoring his seventh Test century, Ajinkya Rahane revealed that he was not really thinking about the century while on the field with the tail-enders.
