Defoe hopes to lead the line for England at Euro
Derby County striker Darren Bent, in a talksport exclusive, believes that Sunderland forward Jermain Defoe should be called up for the England after saving his team from relegation.

A day later, Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck succumbed to the knee injury which has led to speculation that he could miss the tournament in France, and with Black Cats fans incredulous that Defoe’s name has barely been mentioned, Allardyce has no doubts about the former Tottenham marksman’s enduring potency.
Defoe’s fine form this term-he’s bagged 15 goals in 33 showings this season-has taken him back into contention for a spot in the England squad, with manager Sam Allardyce tipping him for the Three Lions’ squad for the European Champions this summer.
Defoe has scored 19 goals in 55 appearances for England with his last cap coming against Chile in November 2013.
He said: “I’d have to have a word with Jermain about that, whether it’s even crossed his mind, or has it crossed Roy’s mind?” But he also makes the valid point that if England “need a goal” then Defoe is the man you want the “ball to drop to” and coming off the bench he could easily make an impact. He has had a big run of games that he has not had for a few years.
The Black Cats yet again secured their Premier League status with a game to spare when they beat Everton 3-0 at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday evening.
“Having just been reminded that he was swapped for Altidore, it’s one of the best bits of business the club has done for a long time, with all due respect to Mr Altidore”, Allardyce said.

“And if I do go, it will be a dream because I still feel like I can score goals for England”.
