Defying UN, North Korea vows to strengthen nuclear capability

North Korea, Yun pointed out, is the only country that has conducted nuclear tests in this century and has conducted 22 ballistic missile tests this year alone.

“Prompted by their sinister aim of branding all self-defensive measures taken by the DPRK to protect the sovereignty of the country and the nation’s right to live as “provocations” and “threats” and finding a pretext for justifying their aggressive scenario, the USA imperialists keep letting their nuclear strategic bombers fly over South Korea in a bid to seek an opportunity of mounting a preemptive nuclear attack”.

Two experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Center for International Studies last week argued that if China were to agree to serious graduated sanctions on North Korea, the United States could agree to freeze the number of ground-based missile interceptors on the Korean Peninsula.

“We strongly recommend the North choose to improve inter-Korean ties in win-win strategy instead of taking the path to self-destruction through ceaseless provocations”, Unification Ministry spokesman Jeong Joon-hee told reporters.

North Korea’s fifth nuclear test on September 9 has been universally condemned, and has prompted the United States, Japan and South Korea to call for tougher sanctions at the U.N. Security Council. The U.N. and global community are searching for new ways to pressure North Korea to change its behavior and end its nuclear weapons programs.

The increasing threat from North Korea means decisions about moving USA forces away from the front lines and transferring operational control to the South must be driven by conditions, not timelines, the Eighth Army commander says.

The statements came after South Korea discussed assassinating Kim Jong Un and USA bomber flights along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

Asked whether THAAD was negotiable, Daniel Russel, the US assistant secretary of state for East Asia, referred to a U.S.

Eric Heginbotham and Richard Samuels said that as part of a set of incentives to China, Washington “might also agree, after consulting South Korea, to withdraw THAAD from the peninsula when North Korean nuclear weapons no longer pose a threat”. “The United States will have to face tremendous consequences beyond imagination”.

“Going nuclear armed is the policy of our state”. He called the North a “serial offender”.

However, last month the U.N. Security Council was unable to condemn the launch of a missile by North Korea that landed near Japan because China wanted the statement to oppose the planned deployment of a USA anti-missile defense system in South Korea.

“Therefore, I believe that it is high time to seriously consider whether North Korea is qualified to be a peace-loving United Nations member, as many other countries are already questioning”, Yun concluded. “. Not presenting that to the president, not training for it and having that capability would be a mistake”.
