DeGrom, Granderson Lead Mets Past Orioles 5-3

The Orioles’ down-the-stretch schedule just turned ugly – they face only two sub-.500 teams the rest of the year, and the resurgent Mets are Exhibit A.

Jacob deGrom took a four-hitter into the eighth inning, Curtis Granderson hit two solo homers and the New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 Tuesday night to snap a three-game losing streak. He’s homered three times in his last four games and is on a five-game hitting streak.

The Mets have now won the last seven games deGrom has started and it was the second straight start in which he has earned the win.

On Tuesday, he reached a benchmark of sorts by allowing one run over 7 ²/₃ innings in the Mets’ 5-3 victory over the Orioles at Camden Yards. He’s struck out all six times he’s faced him and has 151 strikeouts this season.

Tyler Clippard replaced deGrom, and Parra lined to right field. Jimenez had a great start to his season, but since the all star break he has an ERA of 7.39.

He gave up the one run on a home run to Parra in the bottom of the sixth inning. Third base coach Bobby Dickerson chose to test the arm of rookie left fielder Michael Conforto, and the slow-footed Hardy was thrown out easily at home.

DeGrom had got some early support from his offense Tuesday night and also got some insurance after he was pulled.

Daniel Murphy had two doubles and two RBIs for the Mets, the only team in the NL East with a winning record.

That was Granderson’s 21st and 22nd home runs of the season, surpassing his 2014 total or 20, and his third multiple home run game of the season and the 18th such game of his career.

The Orioles had a chance to score in the fifth when J.J. Hardy hit a two-out double and Henry Urrutia followed with a single to left. He issued two straight bases-loaded walks before retiring Manny Machado on a grounder for his 33rd save.
