Deiondre Porter: Florida Player Suspended Indefinitely After Reportedly Firing

Florida freshman defensive back Deiondre Porter has been suspended indefinitely, the school announced on Wednesday.

McElwain said on the SEC coaches teleconference call that Porter “was no longer with the football team”. The state attorney’s office has also charged him with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, a third-degree felony, and firing a weapon into a dwelling, vehicle or building, a second-degree felony.

“Later that same day, the defendant began yelling at the victim again about her being involved with his teammate”, according to the report.

Porter, according to the report, then told the victim they would “try again in the morning” and he went to sleep in her bedroom.

Porter is the second player the Gators have lost indefinitely this week, as quarterback Will Grier was suspended for a calendar year for a positive performance-enhancing drug test. Unlike Grier’s suspension – other than the fact that it came from the NCAA – Porter’s punishment does not have a term and is likely pending the results of an investigation. A day earlier, Porter pulled a gun and put it to his girlfriend’s head, demanding she tell him if she was romantically involved with one of his teammates, according to the police report.

“The victim made numerous attempts to contact the teammate to prove she had not been intimate with him by text message as well as calling, but got no answer to either”, Mullins said. The bullet lodged in the wall where she was leaning.

“It’s one of those things we don’t condone”, McElwain said.

There was no immediate explanation as to whether the gun was licensed to Porter or why it took two weeks for Porter to be arrested.

The police report details the chilling scene from the alleged incident. “Shortly thereafter, the defendant left the victim’s residence”.

Gainesville Police recovered a. 45 caliber shell casing and found a bullet hole in the room where the shooting occurred. The driver, a friend of the defendant, was subsequently found to be in possession of a. 45 caliber handgun.
