As another sign of growing concerns about the Zika virus, the Broward County legislative delegation will meet next week to receive a presentation from state Surgeon General Celeste Philip about the disease. Zika is also linked to an increase in Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a disorder in which the body’s own immune cells attack the nervous system.

But Obama said that the request was based on public health assessments and documented need to fight the virus before it spreads extensively in the United States.
Health officials also said the mosquito that carries the Zika virus is not found in the St. Louis area but is found in the swampy areas of southern states such as Texas or Florida. Those who do have symptoms will most likely experience fever, rash, joint soreness and redness in the eyes.
According to the release, a man infected with Zika can pass the virus to his sexual partner before, during and after symptoms appear.
Both the World Health Organization and the CDC have said that Zika is definitively linked to the alarming rise in microcephaly, a birth defect in which babies are born with small heads and damaged brains, as well as other birth defects, learning delays, and vision and hearing problems.

“It begins with a simple, clear [container], we take the samples of mosquitoes [and] add common BBs to shake up the sample”, said Putnam.
The first cases were reported in Brazil in May 2015, but Zika has since been reported in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
All told, Florida has 172 cases of the Zika virus, including 38 involving pregnant women.

The Escambia County case – who’s not being identified – joins one in Santa Rosa earlier this year – the latter having long since made a full recovery.
