Delays to Scottish flights after technical issue

Nats, who provide air traffic control services in the United Kingdom, said “a technical problem overnight” led to interference on a few radio frequencies that are used to speak to pilots.

DOZENS of flights have been delayed in Scotland after an overnight glitch affected part of Scotland’s air traffic control network.

“The arrivals board at Edinburgh Airport shows a few morning flights from London Heathrow, Bristol and Gatwick are running up to 90 minutes behind schedule”.

It apologised for the inconvenience being brought on however stated the state of affairs was enhancing.

Flights were hit by delays as engineers worked to establish what the problem was and fix it.

NATS is reporting delays to most flights in and out of Scotland this morning because of a technical fault at the air traffic control centre in Prestwick.

Passengers travelling between Bristol Airport and Edinburgh or Glasgow are being warned to expect delays and cancellations.

An Aberdeen worldwide Airport spokesman added that a “small number” of delays were affecting travellers.

Passengers at airports in Scotland tweeted their frustration with several saying they were stuck on the runway.

Passengers were asked via Twitter to check their airline for specific flight details.

Gordon Robertson, of Edinburgh Airport, said passengers should consult their airlines before heading to the airport.
