Delegates mount last-minute effort to nominate Bernie Sanders

Debbie Wasserman Schultz had an abysmal weekend and Monday morning started out no better for her.

The outcry came just one day after Wasserman Schultz said she would step down from her chairmanship at the end of the convention after a massive email leak showed DNC officials giving preference to presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the prolonged primary contest against Sanders.

Following Sunday’s news, however, Clinton responded with a statement thanking her “longtime friend” for her service to the party and, seemingly without irony, announced that Wasserman Schultz would now serve as her campaign’s honorary chair. Initially, she was going to proceed with the traditional role of gaveling the opening and closing of the event, a stance that prompted complaints from many of Mr. Sanders’s supporters.

Feingold predicted that Democrats would be “very unified” at their convention, despite the Wasserman Schultz blow-up and ongoing bitter feelings among supporters of Vermont Sen.

Efforts to promote party togetherness were not helped by the publication last week of thousands of hacked emails, some of which suggested the DNC was favoring Clinton during the primary season. She reached out to Secretary Clinton to notify her about that.

Shouts of “shame” greeted Florida congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz at a breakfast Monday for the Florida delegation here at the Democratic National Convention.

The job of a national party chair – for the Democrats or Republicans – is demanding and unrelenting.

Meanwhile, the party’s communications director announced that longtime political operative and pundit Donna Brazile, now the DNC’s vice chair, will take over as interim chair through the election.

However, continued Taddeo, contrary to sentiments made by Clinton, this is not a case of the Russian government trying to sway the U.S. election in Republican candidate Donald Trump’s favor.

On Sunday, Sanders backers protested against Wasserman Schultz calling for her resignation.

“But it’s an understandable distraction”, said Miner, who said she was disturbed by reports that DNC staffers tried to make Sanders’ religion a wedge issue.

“I wish I was more surprised than I was”, Henson says.

“We live in odd times and the only thing we can be sure of is that the unpredictable will happen”, Ceasar said.

Delegates for Bernie Sanders are trying to drown out Clinton supporters. Hours later, the Hillary Clinton campaign announced they had hired Wasserman Shultz as the head of Clinton’s 50 states campaign.
