Delhi: JNU Student Raped by AISA Activist
The woman, a first-year Ph.D. student, has alleged that Anmol Ratan, a JNU student and AISA activist raped her on Saturday, police said. AISA Delhi Secretary Ashutosh Kumar said, “We stand by the complainant in her fight for justice and will extend all possible support to her”.

She further added that on Saturday Anmol picked her from her hostel to give her the film and took her to his hostel Brahmaputra where he offered some drinks to her and after that raped her.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-I (South) Nupur Prasad said the victim approached the police on Sunday and stated that she had been raped by one Anmol Ratan.
The survivor has also alleged that Ratan had threatened her against telling anyone about the case.
In the recent past, leaders of JNUs Left wing students unions came in for confrontation with the BJP-led Government and the saffron organisations over the issue of patriotism.
Though AISA has, in a statement, distanced itself from the incident stating they have expelled Ratan, the incident has however once again proved how everything in JNU assumes political significance.
According to the complaint filed by her at Vasant Kunj (North) police station, she was looking for copy of the movie ‘Sairat’ and posted on Facebook, asking if anyone had it.
The incident took place at a time when the JNU, dominated by leftist students’ organisations, was gearing up for student elections in a few months from now.
“Jawaharlal Nehru University always stands for dignity of the individual, respect for women and democratic values”.

The university authorities said the entire JNU community stands with the victim. At 3PM, the JNUSU will protest at the administrative block of the university to demand justice for the victim and will ask JNU vice-chancellor to rusticate Anmol Ratan. “Moreover, the Administration appeals to students, staff and teachers to remain vigilant against such incidences”, the statement said.
