Delhi planning to extend Odd-Even rule to two-wheelers also
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday questioned the Delhi government, asking it to explain why women and two-wheelers were exempt for its odd-even trial to curb pollution in the city.

The Odd-Even plan will be implemented from January 1 to 15 in which cars with odd numbered number plates would be allowed to ply on odd dates and cars with registration numbers that are even would be allowed to ply on even dates.
The Delhi High Court also refused to entertain a plea, seeking exemption for lawyers in the Odd-Even formula.
The senior standing counsel for Delhi government, Rahul Mehra, who appeared for department, told the court that several private unaided schools have provided 1,700 buses voluntarily, and none of them has been coerced into doing so. A joint PIL was filed by advocate Manoj Kumar and Gunjan Khanna, a commuter from Noida who said the Delhi government should “call for public debate before enforcing the decision”.
Seeking a response from the government, the court said it will hear the matter next on January 6.
However, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced exemptions that include the President, Prime Minister, chief ministers, governors, emergency vehicles, women drivers, women driving with children below 12 and CNG and hybrid cars besides two-wheelers.
She further said there was no constitutional provision to grant such exemption. Vehicular pollution is the main reason why we are here…
The petition stated that two wheelers emit pollutants and contribute nearly 60 per cent of air pollution and cars constitute a part of the remaining air pollution.

The court’s oral observation was made during hearing the PILs, filed by Shweta Kapoor and Sarvesh Singh, which sought directions for restraining implementation of policy.
