Delhi Slum Demolition Protest: Kejriwal to raise issue in Parliament
In an apparent attack on AAP dispensation over the demolition of jhuggis in Shakur Basti, former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said “government is not run with ego” but as per requirements of the situation, as she pressed for better coordination between state and Centre.

AAP also tried to target the Centre by raising the issue of demolitions carried out by railway police, which comes under railway minister Suresh Prabhu. Delhi’s ruling AAP said it was determined to provide food and shelter to the poor.
In his letter to Prabhu dated 1 December, Kejriwal assured that the Delhi Government will extend “full” co-operation for providing flats constructed under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for relocation of JJ dwellers.
Aam Aadmi Party and Trinammol Congress protested near the Mahatma Gandhi statue outside Parliament condemning the demolition by Railways in Shakur Basti area of West Delhi after it was blamed for the death of an infant.
Earlier during the day, CM Kejriwal had requested the Railway Minister for a meeting.
“There is a need for constructing additional platforms, repairing yard, washing line, maintenance facility and office space for store and engineering division so that more long distance and local trains can be handled at the Shakur Basti station”, another railway official said.
The baby’s grandmother Rubiya Khatoon said some objects fell on the girl when they were in a hurry to leave the shanty.
“Your fight is our fight, as we (Congress) are not in power”. According to Mr Kejriwal, Mr Gandhi was still a “kid”. Gandhi then slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government and Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP government. An infant allegedly died during the drive. “Our friends in the TMC and JDU will do the same in Rajya Sabha since we don’t have any representation there”, said a party spokesperson.
However, the railways, on its part, said the removal of “fresh encroachment” was necessary for expanding the infrastructure and that the action had been taken after three notices, the first one with a March 14, 2015 deadline.

The high court also said that there should be no further “violence” against those who have been left homeless. Notices were sent and encroachers were adviced to vacate the land but they did not respond. Autopsy has revealed fractures in ribs and head injury, it added.
