Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai resigns, citing ‘health reasons’
Earlier, Rai said he will personally go to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to discuss the Delhi government’s app-based premium bus service. Jung then refused to give clearance to the scheme, while Leader of Opposition and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijender Gupta approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to look into the issue.

“I had an interaction with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after which it was decided that the department of transport will be handed over to someone till my recovery”.
“I told them to furnish proof if I have induldged in corruption”. Mr Rai will now hold labour, irrigation and flood control, general administration department (gad), development and employment portfolios. I have left Transport Department due to health reasons. Regardless of his health, Rai showed up at the ACB office today along with supporters to address claims of corruption in the premium bus service scheme.
Gopal Rai recently underwent a surgery to treat a bullet that had been lodged in his neck several years ago.
As transport minister, Rai oversaw the Delhi government’s two rounds of odd-even traffic scheme aimed at battling pollution in January and April.
“It is shameful that a person who underwent such a major surgery and is going through a tough medical condition is being maligned in such a manner”, said a Delhi government spokesperson. The service couldn’t take off following allegations that a particular aggregator was favoured.
Last month, he had announced a Premium Bus Service Scheme to encourage the auto users to leave their vehicles and use public transport.

The former Transport minister said that he has also asked Meena for any proof which proves corruption in scheme, saying that he was ready to provide any file pertaining to the scheme to the probe agency.
