Delhi woman set ablaze for refusing marriage proposal, chances of survival grim

“Abhishek asked the woman to marry him, but when she refused his proposal he poured fuel on her and set her ablaze”, the ADCP added.

Additional DCP outer district Pankaj Singh confirmed that the accused Abhishek and his uncle Vijay have been arrested.

The woman’s family members also claim that they had filed a case against Abhishek in the past for allegedly harassing her.

According to police, the injured were taken to a nearby hospital where the victim’s condition remains critical.

The police arrested the main accused, Abhishek and two of his friends, Vijay and Karan.

The accused, along with their friends used to regularly “harass” the girl, who happens to be a resident of Mukundpur area in northwest Delhi, a senior officer said.

Initially, the girl ignored them but when the stalking continued, she complained to her family. “They dragged her downstairs by the hair, doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze”, the brother said.

“A crowd came and started beating us”. The woman has received 95 percent burn injuries and her chances of survival are bleak. Abhishek threatened the girl of dire effect if she won’t marry him but the girl refused to accept the marriage proposal. The woman had also started avoiding Abhishek, though he often tried to convince her to continue their relationship and marry him, police added.
