With this discontinuation, the company has backed out of Android market entirely and is planning to focus on Windows-powered 2-in-1 devices.

Dell will thus retire the Venue lineup of tablets and no other OS updates will be provided, but the company will continue to honor warranties and service contracts. “We are seeing 2-in-1s rising in popularity since they provide a more optimal blend of PC capabilities with tablet mobility”.

Hardware maker Dell is following the lead of some of its competitors by backing away from the Android tablet platform. “Competition between Apple and Microsoft is especially fierce in the enterprise space; they both say the enterprise space is a good opportunity for them”, he said. This is one of the lowest percentage in the last one year. The company will still continue offering tablets in the form of the 2-in-1’s though they will now be focusing on the Windows 10 operating system. Chinese tech major Lenovo took the third spot with 19.7% market share during the quarter. And the tablet runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and it’ll probably never receive an official update to Android 6.0 or later.

In May, Dell unveiled its new Inspiron 7000 2-in-1s that come in a handful of display sizes – including a 17-inch version that Dell is touting as “the world’s first 17-inch 2-in-1”. That is further supported by the IDC, which showed how slate tablets experienced a big annual decline of -21.1%.

“Dell’s history with Android devices began in the early days of Android by making the Dell Streak, which with a 5” screen size, was considered at the time to be a monstrously large phone. In some cases, the Venue Android tablets were bundled for free with laptops. Also, over the a year ago, the tech giant also experienced significant increase in the demand of its Chromebooks and gaming PCs.
