Delph nears Man City switch after U-turn

Delph, 25, has come on leaps and bounds since signing for Villa back in 2009 from Leeds United, which prompted interest from a couple of sides prior to City moving in for him.

A picture has been doing the rounds on social media supposedly showing the England global heading into a hospital to undergo a medical, and even the Manchester Evening News and the Birmingham Mail are reporting that the deal could still go ahead.

Delph’s statement last Saturday said: “I’m aware there has been intense media speculation surrounding my future in the last 24 hours and I want to set the record straight“.

I’m staying at the football club and I can’t wait for the start of the Premier League season and captaining this great football club.

Villa had expected to lose Delph, whose new deal included an £8m buyout clause, and even brought in Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye as his replacement last week.

Since then all has been quite, while City have spent £49m on Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling (via BBC).
