The power outage in Atlanta started around 2:30 a.m. ET, and impacted computer systems and operations at Delta, the airline said around 7 a.m.

On Twitter, the airline confirmed its computer systems were down everywhere: “Due to a computer outage, flights awaiting departure are now delayed”.

It’s unclear what the issue is. They also confirm that Flights en-route are operating normally.

Several applications were affected, including the company’s website.

Delta said it is offering full refunds to passengers whose flights are canceled or “significantly delayed”, and is waiving fees for passengers who need to change plans between now and August 12.

Delta says its ground stop has been lifted and some planes are now taking off, though cancellations and delays continue. Getting information on the status of flights was particularly frustrating for passengers. She reported long lines at Delta counters, along with “a lot of very frustrated people”.

Passengers flying Delta woke up to some bad news Monday morning.

Among those affected was Tanzie Bodeen, 22, an intern at a software company who lives in Beaverton, Oregon.

Southwest Airlines was forced to cancel more than 2,000 flights across the USA last month after technology problems prevented many travelers from checking in or boarding flights. “It doesn’t seem really hostile yet”, she said.

Investors shrugged off Delta’s IT mishap.
