Delta Airlines: On Second Thought, the Computer Crash Was Our Fault

After canceling 2,000 flights because of a technology systems failure, Delta Air Lines aims to be back to normal operations by the end of the day Wednesday.

By late morning, more than 270 flights had been canceled, including several dozen at Minneapolis-St.

Delta Air Lines passengers stranded since Monday have been searching online to find out how to obtain vouchers promised by the airline, and what the conditions are in order to use those vouchers.

They are offering refunds, flight coupons and no change fees, but there is more to it than that – and it could cost you money.

The recovery might, however, be delayed by scattered thunderstorms forecast in the eastern United States, Delta officials warned.

It’s been more than 48 hours since Delta suffered a massive power outage that grounded all its planes Monday morning, but the travel nightmare isn’t over for some fliers.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian apologized twice to customers, posting videos on the carrier’s website on both Monday and Tuesday.

Delta extended its offer of compensation to affected passengers to noon Wednesday and gave them until August 21 to rebook flights without paying a change fee.

Bay Area airports were still facing residual effects of the blackout throughout the day Tuesday, with several more delays and cancellations.

What can Delta passengers expect? Last month, the average Delta flight was 87% full. He said other Georgia Power customers were not affected because it was an issue with Delta equipment.

Delta has reportedly spent $150 million this year alone on upgrading its systems, but Kidd says it’s unacceptable that part of delta’s backup system also failed. “Now when there is a blizzard coming, they will conservatively precancel thousands of flights and leave everything in a good position to quickly restart afterward”.
