These upgrades will cost $300 to $800, depending on the destination, and are per leg, not for the passenger’s entire trip.

Delta Air Lines will soon offer upgrades beyond first-class seats, to a private jet, as the Atlanta-based carrier merges some of its commercial traffic with its private jet service. The upgrade “includes transportation to the airport’s private aviation area and complimentary on-board catering”, which presumably means something slightly better than a bag of peanuts. “Nobody else can do what we’re talking about”.
Initially, the program will focus on East Coast flights, and naturally, they’ll be offered by Delta Private Jets, the private jet unit operated by Delta.
The program hasn’t launched yet, but Sneed said it could go live as early as this week. Most of the upgrades will involve travel scheduled the next day, although Delta Private Jets said it would have some flights that offer travellers as much as 48 hours’ notice. You need to have a “medallion” status in the Delta SkyMiles frequent-flyer program.
And the lucky few will be given the chance to board one of the company’s 66-plane Delta Private Jets fleet.
Airlines are running out of ways to nickel-and-dime passengers, and instead focusing on posh upgrades for passengers who spend the most – luxury travelers and frequent flyers. “This is an innovative way for us to thank valued Delta customers for their loyalty”. Fliers with Delta Private Jet Cards, which start at $100,000, get priority.
However it should be noted that the stars will have to align just right.
An airline is about to do what the business aviation industry has attempted to do for decades with only limited success: introduce elite airline fliers to the convenience and privacy of business jets.
