This will affect several hundred jobs – direct and indirect – announced the national airport on Monday. The Brussels hub was opened in 2007 and Jet Airways was operating multiple flights to this destination from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru at some point. In this context, Brussels Airlines and other Star Alliance companies – including Air India and United Airlines – would be given priority.
Jet Airways has two hubs in India-Mumbai and Delhi-while its equity partner Etihad Airways operates through its hub in Abu Dhabi.
Jet Airways will end its Brussels and Newark flight with the launch of its new service to the Dutch capital. The Jet Airways Group now operates a fleet of 115 aircraft, comprising Boeing 777-300 ERs, Airbus A330-200/300, Next Generation Boeing 737s and ATR 72-500/600s.
By using Amsterdam rather than Brussels, Jet Airways can provide its customers with a vastly increased number of connections.
Cramer Ball, Chief Executive Officer, Jet Airways, said: “Jet Airways’ new services to Amsterdam and partnership with KLM and Delta demonstrates our continuous endeavour to provide greater choice and connectivity to our guests”. Under this agreement, and subject to government approvals, Jet will codeshare to 30 European destinations for travel between India and Europe via Amsterdam.
The airline will operate one flight each from its domestic hubs – Mumbai and New Delhi – to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Key destinations within the route include Brussels, Berlin, Copenhagen, Munich, Madrid, Geneva and Vienna operated by KLM.
The airline will shift its operations from Brussels to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol by March 26.
Furthermore, Jet Airways guests from India will also be able to access the greater networks of Delta and KLM on an interline basis with convenient connections to over 70 destinations across North America and Europe.
