In Little Rock, Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport listed Delta flights to Atlanta and Detroit as canceled Tuesday morning.

By early afternoon Tuesday, Delta had canceled 530 flights and delayed 1,200 flights Tuesday, the Associated Press reported. Flight-status displays, the website and some mobile and airport technology were disrupted, Delta said.

More than 1000 people spent the night at Narita airport outside Tokyo because of the shutdown and, while flights were resuming on Tuesday, Delta spokeswoman Hiroko Okada said more delays are expected.

However, the utility company delivering the power to Delta is disputing the airline’s explanation.

The overnight power failure took place in Atlanta, near Delta’s headquarters, the company said, causing computer systems to crash.

Last month, the average Delta flight was 87% full.

Delta airlines employs 80,000 people worldwide with 335 destinations in 61 countries it services.

Delta could not re-book passengers onto one of its top rivals and the world’s largest carrier, American Airlines Group Inc, because the two companies ended a ticketing and baggage agreement a year ago.

The airline posted a video apology by CEO Ed Bastian.

Monday’s outage at Delta Airlines continues to ground and delay flights at Orlando International Airport.

This incident comes just a few weeks after an outage at Southwest Airlines led to the cancellation of about 2,300 flights over four days.

The Department of Transportation can fine airlines for unfair practices and requires airlines to offer refunds when a flight is canceled or significantly delayed, said a department spokesperson. The investigation continues, but he added that there was no evidence the problem was caused by hackers or an intentional breach.
