Air travellers faced long queues to check in at Heathrow on Monday after a power outage in Atlanta at 2.38am local time plunged the airline’s operations worldwide and computer systems into chaos.

“Delta didn’t really say anything”, she said.

According to website Flightradar24, some of the first flights to take off were from Amsterdam to the United States, while a flight from Phoenix to Atlanta was among the first to depart from a US airport.

A Delta spokesman said he had no information on the report.

A Delta spokeswoman declined to comment when asked about backup systems.

Delta fell 0.2 percent to $37.58 at 12:13 p.m.in NY. As of 10:30 a.m. ET, Delta operated 800 of its almost 6,000 scheduled flights.

Harold Jimenez, 29, had to re-book his ticket for Tuesday to fly to Nashville, Tennessee, from New York’s LaGuardia Airport. He was traveling to install cameras for a customer of the security firm where he works.

Here’s more from the airline at 6:55 a.m.

At 7:30 a.m., Delta announced that they’d be offering waivers for customers traveling August 8 through August 12. “But now they just canceled it”. He was scheduled to travel to San Francisco through Seattle on a 10-day vacation. “Not the best news to wake up to as you’re arriving to the airport but tried to figure a few things out we were up there and made a few phone calls and apparently everything is good to go”, said Meredith Fitzpatrick.

One passenger, who was on her way to St. Thomas this morning, told a local TV station: “They didn’t tell us anything”.

The company said travelers will be entitled to a refund if the flight is canceled or significantly delayed.

According to the airport’s website, that flight to Atlanta is still on time, but you will want to check ahead. In Tokyo, a dot-matrix printer was resurrected to keep track of passengers on a flight to Shanghai.

“Passengers become increasingly reliant on their ability to check in online (and) check their flight status”, said Daniel Baker, CEO of tracking service FlightAware.com. No other airlines were affected, according to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

We are investigating the cause of toady’s outage, but our focus right now is on our customers and getting our operations back to normal.

Delta Airlines said it has resumed flights on a limited basis following a power cut that disrupted its computer systems around the world. The carrier didn’t estimate how long repairs would take.
