“While inquiries are high and wait times are long, our customer service agents are doing everything they can to assist”, it added.

It noted that flight status systems, including airport screens, were incorrectly showing flights on time, something the company was trying to address.

The hashtag “DeltaDown” swept Twitter with customers posting angry tweets, memes and photos inside the crowded airports after Delta airlines experienced an unexpected worldwide crash of it’s computer system Monday, August 8.

Check-in kiosks at airports were also knocked offline, forcing Delta employees to manually check in passengers. This is the reality Delta is having to deal with today, as a computer outage at its main hub in Atlanta has grounded flights worldwide.

-October 29 – Alaska Airlines delayed about 20 flights because of a computer glitch.

Delta has canceled approximately 300 flights.

Due to a computer outage, flights awaiting departure are now delayed.

Earlier this morning, the airline has responded to customers complaining on Twitter saying “We’re experiencing a system wide issue”.

“Due to a computer outage, flights awaiting departure are now delayed”.

Several applications were affected, including the company’s website.

Delta is the second-largest passenger airline in the world, according to aviation trade group IATA’s own 2016 statistics, which measured its revenue-per-kilometre as $302,512, just behind American Airlines’ $320,813. When boarding finally began for a Minneapolis flight – the first to take off – a Delta worker told people find friends who had wandered away from the gate area, or who might be sleeping off the delays.

By 7:40 a.m. ET, Delta had 25 flights airborne.
