Dem governor moves to ban no-fly list gun sales

“If you can’t fly without clearing government watch lists, you shouldn’t be able to buy a gun”, said Malloy in a statement.

In his speech to the nation Sunday, Obama called on Congress to pass a federal law banning people on the government’s no-fly list from buying guns, as they are now able to do, among other gun-control measures.

Malloy said that across the nation, people on terrorism watch lists tried to buy guns and explosives 2,233 times between 2004 and 2014, according to Federal Bureau of Investigation data. While those shooters were not on government watchlists, Democrats and gun control advocates say the attack by reportedly self-radicalized ISIS sympathizers show that the existing no-fly list, for example – which denies a person the ability to board an airplane but has no effect on their ability to buy guns – is unsafe.

The Governor say he does not know if anyone in CT is on the “watch list” but is working directly with the White House to gain access to it saying if Congress won’t act, then the states will.

The announcement comes after the Federal Bureau of Investigation learned that a radicalized couple was responsible for a mass shooting in San Bernardino, CA that left 14 people dead.

Mr. Malloy’s latest proposal hinges on the federal government’s sharing of watch lists with the state. “It is, quite simply, unacceptable to deny Americans their Second Amendment rights without due process because their name was placed on an error-prone secret government list for which there is no underlying statutory authority”.

There are tens of thousands of people on the “no fly” list, and audits suggest that more 50-percent of them have no ties to terror groups, or are suspected of committing crimes. Malloy told said in an interview Thursday afternoon.

“The governor of CT has pushed the envelope to beyond extreme by treating citizens of the United States in this manner”.

CT stiffened its gun laws after 20 children and six adults were killed in the 2013 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton. He urged the U.S. Congress and other states to take action with similar commonsense steps.
