Demaryius Thomas says grandmother’s sentence commuted
When Demaryius Thomas visited the White House in June, he asked for President Barack Obama to consider granting his grandmother clemency.

Thomas was given the news after practice and he called the impending release of Minnie Pearl Thomas “a blessing”.
Thomas’ grandmother has spent the last 16 years in prison but her life sentence is over now.
Thomas sent a tweet to the president thanking him for everything he’s done for his family.
Minnie Pearl and Thomas’ mother, Katina Smith, were arrested in 1999.
The next time Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas suits up for a playoff game, there’s a good chance that his grandmother – one of the most important women in his life – will finally be in attendance.
President Obama has cut short more sentences from the failed war on drugs than any president before him. Her prison sentence will now expire December 1.
President Obama made history on Wednesday by commuting the sentences of 214 non-violent offenders, the most that has ever been done in one day.

“I just found out right when I came in from weights”, Demaryius Thomas said. Last year, he freed Thomas’ mother from a federal prison where she was doing 20 years on a drug distribution conviction. “I was surprised, and I was excited”.
