Democratic convention will look to highlight Clinton’s career

President Obama and Vice President Biden take the stage Wednesday and, following tradition, Hillary Clinton will speak on the final night of the Convention, Thursday.

President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Sanders and Michelle Obama will headline a “United Together” night on Monday, and President Clinton will headline a more biographically focused Tuesday program focused on Clinton’s “lifetime of fighting for children and families”, according to the program’s release.

Chelsea Clinton will introduce her mother on the last night of the convention when Hillary Clinton is set to become the first woman of a major USA political party to be named on a presidential ballot.

The fact that Sanders, Clinton’s rival in the Democratic primary, will speak in primetime is a nod to his power inside the Democratic electorate and the impact he had on the party during his presidential bid.

Members of Clinton’s family, including former President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton, will also deliver speeches at the convention, which will be held July 25 to 28.

The DNC’s plans do not include a long list of speakers like the Republicans put out on Thursday, but they do outline which issues will be highlighted: As at the Republican convention, one night will focus on the economy.

Tuesday night will feature former President Bill Clinton and the “Mothers of the Movement,” a group of parents of black men and women killed by police or in police custody, including the mother of Michael Brown, Eric Garner and Trayvon Martin.

Hosts of other speakers will address the assembled Democrats in Philadelphia later this month, but those names are expected to be announced later. That, and Warren meeting with Hillary Clinton on Friday as the presumptive nominee sought to make a decision on her running mate, indicate that the progressive hero is still very much in the mix as a possible pick as vice president.
