Democratic Debate Clashes: Sanders and Clinton Competition Heats Up
“I will not take advice from Henry Kissinger”, said Sanders, bringing up the Pol Pot genocide and slamming Clinton for seeking his advice as secretary of state. They can do it, we can do it.

In her closing arguments, Clinton said that Americans live in a “single-issue country” with many barriers needed to be broken, including racism, sexism, and discrimination: “We’ve got to stand up for unions and working people who have done it before, the American middle class, and those being attacked by ideologues and demagogues”. There aren’t enough good-paying jobs, especially for young people. “There is a thin line between trying to convince and motivate people that you are the right candidate, and being condescending and telling people why they should vote for you”, Mr Quirk-Garvan observed. Bernie Sanders voted to protect the gun manufacturers.
Bernie Sanders has more than 200 aides on the ground in the US state, which holds its presidential primary in two weeks.
Clinton’s plan calls for a $50 billion “Infrastructure for Opportunity Fund”, which would provide money for public transportation programs and to rebuild water systems.
Those figures surprise conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum, who says there’s nothing about Sanders that’s attractive to women.
Clinton invoked Obama or his administration 21 times during the debate and used the president, who remains popular with rank-and-file Democrats, as a shield to push back against Sanders’ critiques. Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama couldn’t do this with huge Democratic majorities.
HILLARY CLINTON: The best analysis that I have seen, based on Senator Sanders’ plans, is that it would probably increase the size of the federal government by about 40 percent. Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said Clinton’s campaign was “getting very nervous and is becoming increasingly negative and desperate”.
Clinton – who entered the race past year as the presumptive front runner with sky-high polling numbers – fought to reestablish her dominance after Sanders’ landslide victory in the New Hampshire primary earlier this week. Sanders responded: “Madam Secretary, that is a low blow”.
Beneath the talk of common ground, agreement and mutual admiration, there is a latent animosity between the Clinton and Sanders campaigns that now threatens to boil over. When Sanders assailed the influence of Wall Street on the nation’s political system, she said Obama had received millions from the financial industry but had still signed the Dodd-Frank financial overhaul. “But it doesn’t change my view that we need to empower everyone, women and men, to make the best decisions in their minds that they can make”, she said. They’re going to end up in the productive economy, which is where we want them. “I’m not asking people to support me because I’m a woman”, Clinton said.

The race now moves to what should be more favorable ground for Clinton in Nevada and SC, states with more black and Hispanic voters, who, polls show, have been more supportive of Clinton so far.
